Weight Loss: Intervention with the Use of Herbal Medicines
The use of herbal medicines is characterized by the use of medicinal plants in its different pharmaceutical forms. Various surveys indicate a significant increase in the consumption of herbal medicines by the population with the goal of controlling the weight or promote weight loss. Knowing that the prevalence of overweight is increasing in the world at an alarming rate, the goal of this study was to review the literature on the use of faseolamina in weight loss. According to the scientific literature supporting the use of faseolamina as in weight reduction treatment has been shown to be effective. The faseolamina is considered a "starch blocker", because its components are able to reduce the action of the enzyme alpha-amylase, responsible for the digestion of starch. Without the action of this enzyme, the body is unable to absorb carbohydrates. Further studies are necessary so that healthcare professionals can prescribe them appropriately.
